Latest Update: In 2022, Haiti faced many challenges. Political instability, mass protests, gang violence, fuel shortages, rampant inflation, and a cholera outbreak led to some of the worst conditions on the ground we’ve seen in years.
Amidst these concurring crises, our work on La Gonave and with the La Gonave Leadership & Community Development Center has continued. In October, Louino Robillard, Program Director of Rasin Devlopman, met with architect Daniel Elie to work on finalizing the designs for the Center and tailoring the spaces to Rasin’s unique needs. The center will have so many amazing features, and we invite you to explore them in this video interview with the architect: https://youtu.be/Rx1yi_OS9B4.
The current situation in Haiti only further reinforces our conviction that the work we support on La Gonave—which will soon be based out of the La Gonave Community Leadership & Development Center—represents the future of development in Haiti. It also underscores the need for the Center to be as self-sustaining as possible, to guard against the effects of crises like the ones the country is facing now. One of the ways that we are helping to ensure that the Center can maintain its efforts no matter the circumstances is by drilling this well in the land, securing a safe and reliable water source.
We must reach our goal of raising $36,000 to drill a well before we can begin construction on the Center. Thank you so much for your support of this project, and please consider making an additional contribution or becoming a monthly donor to help us make the La Gonave Community Leadership & Development Center a reality.
This work is not possible without you! Thank you.
Sincerely,
Chad W. Bissonnette
