Water Well Financial Report

By Mugadya Saleh Katumba | Chief Executive Officer

The available water sources are not safe
The available water sources are not safe

Humanity Aid Foundation is committed to improving the living conditions of vulnerable and underserved communities in Uganda through sustainable development and humanitarian interventions. One of our priority areas is access to safe and clean water.

Humanity Aid Foundation established the Water Well Project to help provide a reliable source of clean and safe water to a community that currently faces challenges accessing adequate water for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and other household needs.

The project was created on the GlobalGiving platform to mobilize financial support from individuals, organizations, and well-wishers who share our commitment to improving access to clean water and promoting healthier communities.

2. BACKGROUND AND COMMUNITY NEED

The targeted community experiences significant challenges in accessing safe and reliable sources of water. Many families depend on distant, seasonal, or potentially unsafe water sources. During dry periods, the situation can become more difficult as available water sources reduce and community members have to travel longer distances to obtain water.

Limited access to clean water can affect household hygiene, sanitation, health, school attendance, and economic activities. Women and children are particularly affected because they often spend considerable time collecting water.

The proposed water well will provide a more accessible and sustainable source of water for the surrounding community and contribute to improved health, hygiene, dignity, and general well-being.

3. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the project is to increase access to safe, clean, and reliable water for vulnerable community members.

The specific objectives are to:

  1. Construct and equip a water well in the targeted community.

  2. Provide community members with access to a reliable source of clean water.

  3. Reduce the distance and time spent collecting water.

  4. Promote improved hygiene and sanitation practices.

  5. Contribute to the reduction of water-related illnesses.

  6. Improve the general well-being and productivity of community members.

  7. Establish a sustainable community-managed water source.

4. PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION STATUS

At the time of this report, Humanity Aid Foundation has not yet received funding through the GlobalGiving campaign for the construction of the proposed water well.

Therefore, the physical construction of the water well has not yet commenced under this fundraising campaign.

The project remains active as a fundraising initiative, and Humanity Aid Foundation continues to seek financial support from donors, partners, institutions, and well-wishers.

The organization has used this period to continue assessing the community's water needs, identifying the target beneficiaries, planning the proposed intervention, and developing a fundraising strategy for the project.

5. ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN SO FAR

Although funds have not yet been raised through GlobalGiving, Humanity Aid Foundation has undertaken preparatory activities, including:

  • Identification of the community requiring improved access to clean water.

  • Assessment of the community's water challenges.

  • Consultation with community members regarding their water needs.

  • Identification of the proposed location for the water well.

  • Development of the project concept and implementation plan.

  • Preparation of the project budget.

  • Creation of the project fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving.

  • Mobilization of potential donors and development partners.

  • Continued awareness of the importance of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.

These preparatory activities are intended to ensure that the project can be implemented effectively once sufficient funding is secured.

6. FUNDRAISING STATUS

Humanity Aid Foundation would like to clearly report that no funds have so far been raised through the GlobalGiving campaign for this water well project.

As a result:

  • No GlobalGiving project funds have been spent.

  • No construction work has been financed through GlobalGiving.

  • No project expenditure has been charged to GlobalGiving donations.

  • The project remains in the fundraising and preparation stage.

Humanity Aid Foundation remains committed to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the project implementation process.

7. EXPECTED BENEFICIARIES

Once implemented, the project is expected to benefit households and community members living within the targeted area.

The beneficiaries will include:

  • Children

  • Women and girls

  • Men

  • Elderly community members

  • Vulnerable households

  • Schools and other community institutions where applicable

The exact number of beneficiaries will be confirmed during the final project assessment and implementation stage.

8. EXPECTED IMPACT

The successful implementation of the water well project is expected to produce several positive outcomes.

These include:

Improved access to clean water: Community members will have a more reliable source of water for drinking and domestic use.

Improved health: Access to safer water can contribute to reducing exposure to waterborne diseases.

Improved hygiene and sanitation: Reliable water availability will support better handwashing, cleaning, and household sanitation practices.

Reduced burden on women and children: A nearby water source can reduce the time and physical effort required to collect water.

Improved school attendance: Children may have more time for education when the burden of collecting water is reduced.

Improved livelihoods: Community members can spend more time on farming, small businesses, employment, and other productive activities.

9. CHALLENGES

The major challenge currently facing the project is the lack of sufficient funding to begin construction.

Other challenges include:

  • Limited financial resources available to the organization.

  • Difficulty reaching sufficient numbers of potential donors.

  • High costs associated with drilling, construction, equipment, and installation.

  • Possible technical challenges related to identifying a suitable water source.

  • Increasing construction and transportation costs.

  • The need for continued community mobilization and awareness.

Despite these challenges, Humanity Aid Foundation remains committed to pursuing the project and identifying additional funding opportunities.

10. LESSONS LEARNED

During the preparation and fundraising stage, Humanity Aid Foundation has learned that successful water projects require:

  1. Careful assessment of community needs before implementation.

  2. Strong community participation and ownership.

  3. Proper technical assessment before drilling or construction.

  4. Transparent budgeting and financial management.

  5. Continuous communication with donors and stakeholders.

  6. A sustainable plan for operation and maintenance of the water facility.

  7. Diversification of fundraising and partnership opportunities.

11. SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

Humanity Aid Foundation recognizes that constructing a water well is only the beginning. Long-term sustainability is therefore an important part of the project.

Once the project is funded and completed, the organization intends to work with community representatives to establish a community water management structure.

The sustainability approach will include:

  • Community participation in the management of the water source.

  • Training selected community members in basic maintenance.

  • Establishment of appropriate arrangements for routine maintenance.

  • Promotion of responsible use of the water facility.

  • Regular monitoring of the condition and functionality of the water source.

  • Community awareness on hygiene, sanitation, and water conservation.

12. NEXT STEPS

Once adequate funding is secured, Humanity Aid Foundation plans to:

  1. Conduct or confirm a technical assessment of the proposed site.

  2. Obtain any necessary local approvals.

  3. Engage qualified personnel or contractors.

  4. Drill or construct the water well.

  5. Install the appropriate water-pumping and storage facilities where required.

  6. Test the water quality.

  7. Complete the water point and surrounding infrastructure.

  8. Train community members on proper use and maintenance.

  9. Officially hand over the facility to the community.

  10. Monitor the project and document its impact.

13. FUNDING REQUIREMENT

Humanity Aid Foundation is seeking financial support to enable the implementation of this important community water project.

The funds raised will be used strictly for approved project-related activities, including technical assessment, drilling or construction, equipment, installation, water testing, and related infrastructure, according to the final approved project budget.

The organization will continue to provide appropriate updates to donors and stakeholders as the project progresses.

14. CONCLUSION

The Water Well Project remains an important priority for Humanity Aid Foundation because access to safe and reliable water is essential for health, dignity, hygiene, education, and community development.

Although the project has not yet received funding through the GlobalGiving campaign, the organization has continued with project preparation, community assessment, fundraising, and donor engagement.

Humanity Aid Foundation remains committed to implementing the project once adequate resources are secured. We are grateful to GlobalGiving for providing a platform through which this community need can be presented to potential supporters around the world.

We respectfully invite donors, partners, institutions, and well-wishers to support the project so that the targeted community can gain access to a sustainable source of safe and clean water.
