Reliable access to clean water in Gaza is essential to protecting public health, promoting proper hygiene and sanitation, and reducing the spread of waterborne diseases. It also eases the financial burden on vulnerable families by reducing their reliance on expensive trucked water. The savings allow households to direct their limited resources toward other critical needs, including food, shelter, healthcare, and rebuilding sustainable livelihoods.
Years of conflict and displacement have severely disrupted access to safe and reliable water in Gaza. Many families, particularly those living in temporary shelters and displacement sites, lack consistent access to clean water for drinking, cooking, hygiene, and sanitation. As water infrastructure has been damaged and regular services disrupted, families are often forced to rely on costly trucked water or other unreliable sources.
Langtaa Songtaa for Relief will address the lack of reliable access to clean water by supporting the rehabilitation and improvement of local water infrastructure, enabling displaced families to access safe water closer to where they live. By strengthening existing water systems, the project will provide a more reliable and sustainable source of water while reducing families' dependence on expensive and inconsistent trucked water.
Our previous water project in Gaza demonstrated the immediate impact of this approach. The project enabled approximately 1,000 displaced families to regain reliable access to water, improving their daily living conditions, health, and sense of dignity. Based on the total project cost, approximately $2.11 provided access to water for one person, demonstrating the strong cost-effectiveness of investing in community-based water infrastructure.
