Malawi is a country with many resources: there are lakes and rivers, but often you can not make the most of this wealth. The population lives on a subsistence farming that, because of poor irrigation and the use of inadequate cultivation techniques, does not guarantee a balanced and daily meal for many families. For this reason, cases of malnutrition and child mortality don't decrease!
Pedal pumps can represent a still of salvation! The beneficiaries families, thanks to the use of pumps and fertilizers, have tripled their crops and improved the quality of maize. In addition to ensuring food security, farmers can also sell grain surplus to the market, thus gaining a useful profit to cover other spending.
During his august trip, our photographer Marco was able to see foot pedals in action and confirmed their efficiency for field work as well as the farmers' joy and satisfaction.
On October, our President Elena and a group of Aleimar friends will go to Malawi and they will have the pleasure to meet Father Kimu, our trusted local referent, and will see in person the improvements that this project has brought to life for many families.
On the occasion of the visit, we hope to be able to deliver new pedal pumps to other families in the village of Mangochi!
Good trip!
