Every Drop Counts: Building Sustainable Futures Through Water Access

Dear Donors,
In October, the Aleimar team will travel to Malawi for the annual monitoring trip, visiting the communities where we work alongside our local partners. This visit will allow us to monitor the progress of the project, meet the beneficiary families, assess the impact of the activities carried out, and identify the most urgent needs of the villages we support.

One of the communities we will visit is Namwera, a rural area in the Mangochi District where most families depend on small-scale agriculture for their livelihoods. Here, life is closely tied to the availability of water. Rainfall has become increasingly unpredictable due to climate change, and prolonged periods of drought often leave families without sufficient water for irrigation or daily use. As a result, crop yields decline, food insecurity increases, and many households struggle to provide enough nutritious food for their children.

Access to safe drinking water also remains a major challenge. Many families still rely on distant or unsafe water sources, exposing children and adults to waterborne diseases such as cholera. Women and children are often responsible for collecting water, walking long distances every day instead of spending that time at school or working in the fields.

Through the "Water for All" project, we are working to change this reality. Manual pedal pumps allow farmers to irrigate their fields even during the dry season, increasing agricultural production, improving food security, and creating opportunities to generate income. At the same time, new wells provide communities with reliable access to clean water, improving health, hygiene, and dignity for hundreds of families.

During our upcoming monitoring trip, we hope to make the dream of providing the community of Namwera with a new pedal pump a reality, enabling more families to cultivate their land and build a more secure and sustainable future.
