Dear friend,
Here is an update of our actions to provide water to Somalia and warmth to Ukraine.
UKRAINE
“IOM has donated 18 generators to the municipality of Kharkiv. One of the generators is used to provide heating for 28 multistorey residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten, and a clinic. IOM has provided another four generators to the war-affected city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine.
Ukrainian Railways Ukrzaliznytsia has received 22,500 thermal blankets with IOM’s support, which will be used at heating points at nearly a hundred railway stations across Ukraine. Another 20,000 thermal blankets were provided to the Ukrainian Railways at the beginning of the year.”
SOMALIA
IOM’s response focuses on assisting displaced communities with a package of life-saving assistance to save lives, avert famine and prevent putting an additional strain on urban centers already hosting large numbers of internally displaced people living in overcrowded conditions.
IOM has been mitigating the substantial displacement flows and increased pressure on basic services in the main urban centers by upscaling its presence and support in drought-affected areas, aiming to reach people closer to their place of origin.
