To Our Wonderful Friends,
We at CREATE! firmly believe that the availability of clean water and easy access to food are key to better health and sustainable livelihoods. Through your generous support, our efforts in rural Senegal continue to grow and help many households overcome difficulties caused by water shortages and food insecurity. The women are more self-sufficient in terms of food and water access because of your support.
In recent months, our partner communities have worked to enhance gardens through solar irrigation and regenerative agriculture. It is amazing how they are transforming previously barren and tough spaces into productive spaces where women cultivate vegetables, fruit-bearing trees, and other crops. This not only contributes to family nutrition but also generates income for them.
In the Keur Malle community, the beneficiaries have jointly grown vegetables such as okra, turnips, and hibiscus, where the outputs have been shared fairly among the members, while any excess has been sold at the local markets every week to earn money for the group. Additionally, the beneficiaries have established a lettuce nursery using appropriate vegetable farming methods, including preparing the land, planting seeds at suitable distances, irrigating, and maintaining them.
Your contributions will further assist communities in adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly water usage methods. Irrigation practices have been timed to take place during the early mornings and evenings to prevent the loss of water due to evaporation, thereby ensuring soil moisture in the dry and hot climate of Senegal. The drip irrigation systems remain in use by the beneficiaries because they provide direct watering at the plant roots while preventing water wastage.
CREATE! is empowering communities in organizing themselves through committees established for harvesting, marketing, crop protection, equipment maintenance, and poultry production. Together, these efforts are strengthening community leadership, improving agricultural productivity, and building more resilient ecosystems and livelihoods for rural families, and you are an incredible part of this growth!
