In Funtua LGA, Katsina State, schoolgirls were recently found fetching water from gutters due to a broken pipe, exposing them to serious health risks and compromising their dignity and safety. This emergency WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project aims to restore access to clean and safe water for schoolgirls and their schools through immediate water supply interventions, infrastructure rehabilitation, and hygiene education.
In Funtua LGA, Katsina State, schoolgirls are forced to fetch water from contaminated gutters due to a broken pipe, putting their lives at immediate risk. They are drinking and using water that can cause cholera, typhoid, and other deadly diseases. This isn't just unsafe, it's inhumane. The lack of clean water is stripping girls of their health, dignity, and education. Without urgent intervention, these girls remain trapped in a daily cycle of danger and deprivation.
This project will provide immediate clean water through trucking and purification kits, fix the broken pipe, and install safe water points in schools. It will also supply menstrual hygiene kits and educate girls on hygiene, helping them stay healthy and in school. By training school WASH clubs and local committees, the project ensures long-term maintenance and sustainability, ending the cycle of unsafe water and restoring safety and dignity to girls in Funtua.
The project will improve 200 girls; health, school attendance, and dignity. With access to clean water and proper hygiene facilities, girls will no longer miss school or fall sick from contaminated water during menstruation. Schools and communities will be empowered to maintain safe WASH systems, reducing future risks. Over time, this will contribute to gender equality, improved education outcomes, and stronger, healthier communities.
