Overview
The Impact Vocational Skills Training Center: A Future in the Making
At the heart of our current infrastructure push lies the construction of the Impact Vocational Skills Training Center—a project rooted in economic empowerment and long-term change.
This center is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a lifeline for women, youth, and vulnerable community members, providing:
Hands-on training in fashion design, agriculture, and trades to help people start businesses
and generate income.
Safe, accessible education spaces for those who have aged out or dropped out of traditional schools.
Workshops and mentorship programs are designed to build confidence, leadership, and employable skills.
Impact Sierra Leone (ISL) in partnership with the Foindu Village community is building a Vocational Training center with a target completion by December 2025. The Agribusiness vocational training center for women farmers will make significant strides in supporting and empowering women in agriculture. Through bricks, skills, healing, and partnership, the women of Foindu are transforming their lives—and we are simply helping to hold the space.
The vocational training center will be a state-of-the-art “Impact Women’s Vocational Center” as the first phase of a comprehensive four-part development plan for an Agribusiness Hub. A cohort of 40 women farmers have been identified as the vocational center’s initial participants. Under the direction of certified instructors, they will learn essential skills to foster economic independence, community building and creativity. These skills include blending traditional and modern agricultural practices, learning modern agribusiness practices, sewing, small business management, entrepreneurship, fashion design, jewelry making, arts/crafts, culinary arts, traditional and digital literacy. “Our mission is to empower women as the cornerstone of sustainable development in Sierra Leone,” said Dr. Adama Kalokoh, Executive Director of ISL. “This center is more than a facility; it’s a bridge to economic empowerment and a brighter future for women who are vital to progress in their communities.”

GlobalGiving Progress Report
Reporting Period: March 2026
Project: Impact Vocational Skills Training Center — Foindu Village, Sierra Leone
A Message from Impact Sierra Leone
The past three months have been a season of visible momentum for Impact Sierra Leone. From bricks being molded on the ground in Foindu Village to voices being shared in digital spaces across the globe, every step has moved us closer to a community that stands stronger. We are deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors, partners, and volunteers whose support makes each of these milestones possible.
Below is a full account of what has been accomplished this reporting period.
1. Vocational Skills Training Center — Phase 2 Underway
The Vocational Skills Training Center remains our flagship project and the heartbeat of this campaign. We are proud to announce that Phase 2 of the block-molding process has officially kicked off.
Two dedicated block-molding activities were carried out by community members and volunteers on February 15, 2026, and February 28, 2026. Through these activities, we have now produced 400 blocks — all of which are already on the ground in Foindu Village. These are not just building materials; they are proof of what happens when a community believes in its own future.
Blocks Goal (Foundation Phase): 2,500 blocks
Blocks Produced So Far: 400 blocks across 2 community molding activities
Total Blocks Needed (Full Facility): 7,500 blocks
We remain committed to bringing more community members, volunteers, and donors onto this journey until every block is laid and the center opens its doors.
2. Barrels of Hope — Supplies Shipped to Sierra Leone
In February 2026, Impact Sierra Leone successfully shipped 4 barrels of supplies to Sierra Leone. These barrels — filled with cloth and medical supplies for the women of the ISL Agribusiness Collective and their children — have made the journey and are now in the hands of the people of Foindu Village, directly meeting our poverty alleviation goals.
Each barrel is a physical expression of the care that travels across oceans — from donors, supporters, and community members who believe in this work. We are grateful to everyone who contributed items and helped make this shipment possible.
Additionally, during the Christmas Day of Hope celebration, the women of the Agribusiness Collective were actively involved in a cooking competition — a joyful expression of community, culture, and the strength of these women who are at the heart of everything we do.
3. Welcoming Unisa — New Volunteer & Lead Project Coordinator
This month, we are delighted to welcome Unisa as a new volunteer with Impact Sierra Leone in Foindu Village. Since joining, Unisa has shown exceptional dedication and has been a highly coordinated and supportive presence on the ground.
Unisa serves as Lead Project Coordinator, directly leading the brick-building activities in Foindu Village. Volunteers like Unisa are the backbone of our on-the-ground work. His energy and commitment reflect exactly the spirit of community-led development that ISL was founded on.
4. Champion of Impact — Three New Members Join
We are thrilled to announce that three new members have joined the Champion of Impact Initiative this month, bringing fresh energy and expertise to our growing team:
• Mr. Emmanuel Ambuena — Marketing and Communications Committee
• Mr. Bernard Mathia — Champion of Impact Member, Marketing and Communications
• Mr. Lansana Fofanah — Fundraising Committee
Each of these individuals brings unique strengths to our mission. Their decision to invest their time and talent in ISL is a testament to the growing momentum around our work. We welcome them warmly and look forward to what we will build together.
5. Events — Online & In-Person
Online Events
Our online events serve as a powerful way to promote the project and gain more supporters within the diaspora community, connecting people across the world to the work happening on the ground in Sierra Leone.
Sisters' Forum (February 2026): Our CEO, Dr. Adama Kalokoh, was invited to speak at a Sisters' Forum in February, where she had the opportunity to share about the impact and work of Impact Sierra Leone. The engagement opened new conversations around community development and what it means to support women and families in rural Sierra Leone. The presentation topic was Capacity Building through Vocational Training, raising awareness to the building project.
In-Person Events
International Women's Day — Her Power, Our Progress (March 8, 2026): In honor of International Women's Day, Dr. Adama Kalokoh attended an in-person gathering where she connected with fellow advocates, changemakers, and supporters. This event was a meaningful opportunity to amplify the voices and stories of the women at the center of ISL's work — including the 40 women of the ISL Women's Agribusiness Collective — while building relationships that support our broader mission.
DC Rotary Club Presentation (Upcoming — March 25, 2026): We are currently preparing for an upcoming In-Person presentation hosted by the DC Rotary Club. This is an exciting opportunity to reach a new audience of potential partners and donors, and the ISL team is preparing massively to make this presentation impactful and memorable. ISL CEO will present the Vocational Training Center project to a group of 40 rotary members.
First Baptist Church of Georgetown Presentation (Upcoming – March 29, 2026) We are currently preparing for an upcoming In-Person presentation hosted by the First Baptist Church of Georgetown in DC where the CEO will present the Vocational Training Center project. The church provided a donation towards our February Brick molding activities and has pledged to continue supporting the project financially.
Voices of Hope Series (Ongoing): The Voices of Hope storytelling series continues to spotlight the women of Foindu Village, giving visibility to their resilience, dignity, and dreams. This series remains one of our most powerful tools for connecting donors with the human stories behind the numbers. The beneficiaries of the Impact Vocational training center are the spotlight of the Voice of Hope Series.
March and April 2026
ISL has identified and is establishing partnership with a local Brick company in Sierra Leone who will work with the construction engineer and provide cement bricks to start the foundation. During the months of March and April, ISL will begin the construction of the foundation of the building
Graphic Design and Communication Materials for the project
ISL Marketing team developed several graphic designs including posters and banners to further promote the building project with global supporters and to also utilize in project activities (i.e. Buy a Brick)
6. ISL Nonprofit Registration in Sierra Leone
Impact Sierra Leone has successfully obtained formal nonprofit registration in Sierra Leone. This milestone enables us to partner with local businesses and organizations in Sierra Leone and significantly strengthens our operational capacity on the ground, enabling us to forge more official partnerships, access local resources, and deepen our accountability to the communities we serve.
Alongside this milestone, we conducted a community meeting on February 14th in Foindu Village with a key stakeholder — District Council Member Mr. Abdulai Koroma— in attendance. The meeting drew more than 300 community members who gathered to hear updates on ISL's work and to demonstrate their continued support. The presence of the district council marks a meaningful step in building official relationships at the local government level.
Looking Ahead (Buy a Brick Campaign)
As we move further into 2026, Impact Sierra Leone remains focused on three things: building the Vocational Skills Training Center brick by brick, deepening our roots in Foindu and surrounding villages, and amplifying the stories of the people this work is for. ISL recently launched a campaign called “Buy a Brick” where donors can buy a brick used n the project. ISL CEO will present this campaign to sponsors and donors via in person and online events.
To every donor who has given to this project on GlobalGiving — thank you. You are not just funding a building. You are funding a future for young people, women, and families who deserve every opportunity to thrive.
Next Steps:
Phase 2 Completion
ISL team continues working to complete Phase 2 construction of the Foundation. Our next step is to purchase more bricks (2100) to construct the foundation of the building. We aim to complete Phase 2 by the end of July 2026.
