Dear Supporters,
We are incredibly proud to share the latest updates from the Skilling School Dropout Youth Project. Thanks to your unwavering generosity, we have continued to provide marginalized youth with the critical vocational training, mentorship, and life skills they need to break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable careers.
Key Achievements & Milestones Over the Last 6 Months:
1. Increased Enrollment and Retention: We welcomed a new cohort of 45 students into our intensive vocational tracks, including digital literacy, tailoring, and mechanical repairs. Our mentorship program has successfully maintained a 92% retention rate this term.
2. Hands-On Workshops: Beyond classroom learning, students participated in business management and financial literacy workshops to prepare them for entrepreneurship.
3. Successful Transitions: We are thrilled to report that 15 of our recent graduates have successfully secured internships or entry-level employment within local businesses, while 3 have launched their own micro-enterprises.
A Story of Impact: Meet Sarah
When Sarah dropped out of secondary school due to financial hardships, she felt her future options disappearing. Joining the Skill School changed everything. Over the past few months, Sarah has dedicated herself to our culinary and hospitality arts track. Today, she is not only top of her class but has also started a small weekend catering business that helps support her siblings. Sarah’s journey is a powerful testament to what happens when we invest in a young person's potential.
Challenges and Adaptations:
Rising material and equipment costs presented a challenge this quarter. To ensure our students still received high-quality, hands-on practice, we partnered with local trade shops to share resources and secure bulk discounts. This adaptation allowed us to stay within budget without compromising the quality of our training.
Life Realities!
In our village, when a girl drops out of school, early marriage follows in months. This year, we started skill training.
With your past donations, 15 girls (14-18 years, school dropouts) now learn tailoring every afternoon in rented room near trading centre. Teacher is Mary, local tailor.
Last week, Sarah (16, dropped after P7) sewed her first school uniform for sale — earned 15,000 UGX ($4). She said: Now I can buy soap myself, no need husband.
What $30 does:
- 1 month training + fabric for 1 girl
- She learns to make uniforms for project 21343 — circular!
We need $360 for 12 girls for November. Can you sponsor one girl for $30?
Looking Forward:
In the coming months, we aim to expand our digital lab to accommodate more students and introduce an advanced tech-skills curriculum. Your continued support is what makes these transformations possible.
Thank you for standing alongside these resilient young people as they rewrite their stories.
With deepest gratitude,
Aparis CDP and the Project Team
