With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting everyday life for all of us, we thank you for your continued support.
Right now ChildVoice’s Nigeria team is facing unprecedented challenges. The pandemic has had some unfortunate side effects for many people living in Nigeria’s internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, chief among them hunger. As we adapt to these unprecedented circumstances, we’ll continue to serve our communities as best we can. However, in order to ensure the safety of our community and ourselves, we’ve made necessary modifications to our programming that we’d like to share with you.
The situation for adolescent girls we serve in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps like those at Malkohi has been deteriorating. Just as the pandemic hit, our Nigeria staff found that accessing clean water had become an issue. Now, because of the pandemic, solving the issue becomes harder and is compounding lack of access to food, medicine, and other basic needs.
Consequently, our Nigeria staff are now in discussion with local partners to address the issue of food assistance. For the time being, we will be diverting funds planned for additional vocational training to help pay for food relief efforts. Regular programming will resume once it’s safe to do so -- and once the food scarcity issue has been adequately addressed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all of us, and we pray that you remain safe and healthy. Thank you so much for your generosity amid this ongoing global health crisis. You make change happen!
