Vocational curriculum expansion has begun!

By Conrad Mandsager | ChildVoice CEO and President

Thank you so much for your generous donations to help us fund vocational training for Boko Haram victims and other war-affected adolescent girls in Nigeria. We’re happy to announce that at this point, the project is nearly 75 percent funded!

We are now in the process of developing a more comprehensive vocational curriculum to help the girls we serve develop income-generating skill sets. In addition, we have begun research into possible expansion of our programming with the help of local facilities. We are also researching the feasibility of adding skills training and psychosocial counseling as an option for war-affected boys. This includes assessing both the level and scope of needs of adolescent boys living in Malkohi’s IDP (internally displaced persons) camps.

Our Nigeria team faces significant daily challenges in planning for and providing ongoing skills training services to the war-affected girls who live in the IDP camps in northeastern Nigeria. Our main office in Yola is frequently without electrical power. And recently, the vehicle our Nigerian staff members have been using was damaged by floodwater, making travel to the remote IDP camps extremely difficult. We are now in the process of raising funds to replace inadequate transportation with a Land Cruiser, which will be capable of traversing badly degraded roads during the rainy season.

Our vocational training programs are made possible only by the support of donors like you who care about the lives of vulnerable, war-traumatized girls. We appreciate you coming alongside us!
