Villa Gewoon Bijzonder is a Dutch foundation, set up by parents, that aims to create a small-scale housing facility for severely disabled children and young adults. The goal is for them to feel like they're at home, loved and cared for like their parents would, while still receiving all the professional medical care they need.
At this moment it is impossible for Dutch children with severe handicaps and complex medical needs to find a facility, that provides the love and care each child needs, combined with adequate professional medical care. This leads to a failure to thrive for the patients that need it most. While the Dutch government will provide funding for care, it won't provide funding for specialized housing. And that is where your help is needed!
Villa Gewoon Bijzonder wants to create a place where kids can be kids, despite their medical needs. A place where the professional medical staff has time for their social and intellectual development and where kids can enjoy themselves, and not be neglected.
This small-scale housing facility will provide a long-term solution for up to ten children and young adults whose need for care is too complex to live at home. The children will have a home that is suitable for their needs and the parents can leave their children in the hands of trusted professionals.
