Thank you for the support of this project!
VIDYARAMBAM TRUST has been working to support children's education. Our team has worked with the project leader, and while the project is closing on GlobalGiving.org, the funds raised will be applied to it. The organization has found alternate source of funding to complete this project.
If you would like to support Tamil Nadu's other project, you can do so here: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/basic-english-for-100000-children-in-rural-india/.
"English is not a language present in the environment of Indian rural children. There is fear associated in learning the same. 95+% are first generation learners who have no exposure to English in their learning environment or at home. The only way they can pick up English is by reading written text. This is what HeadStart addresses - giving these children a head start teaching them to decode English through phonics, replacing fear with confidence, and making the learning process enjoyable!
HeadStart is a month long program designed by Vidyarambam Trust, for Grade IV and V students. At the heart of the programme is "Phonics", the globally proven methodology customized by Vidyarambam in 2008 to make English reading easier. Breaking the fear of learning English, it has given a head start to a large number of first generation students who easily learn the letters of the alphabet, their symbols, and sounds, blending sounds to read words and develop basic vocabulary in an enjoyable way."
Thank you again for your support,
Jacqueline and the GlobalGiving team
