The Veteran Assistance Fund helps struggling Veterans with every day needs. Veterans have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and when they return from active duty have many needs and complex issues. Most programs that are available to Veterans don't address some of the every day needs that the Veteran has. This fund covers things like past due mortgage payments, truck rental if they have to move, utility bills, clothing for job interviews, past due rent payments, gas and food.
When a Veteran returns from active duty, & war they are faced with many challenges, in most cases have not been briefed on how to adapt to civilian life. In the Military they had a place to live, food, & clothing to wear the entire time they were in the military. Some Veterans when they get out also have PTSD which can cause them to not be able to work, be able to pay their bills, feed their children or live a "normal" life. This fund is for the Veterans who don't meet other programs criteria.
This project helps the Veteran with cancer that is behind on his mortgage payment because he had to buy cancer medicine. This project helps the Veteran that lost his job because he did not call in due to PTSD and now is behind on his rent. This project helps pay for a car repair when the Veteran does not have any money to do so. This project helps a Veteran buy clothes for a Job interview. This project helps to pay a utility bill for a Veteran This project helps pay for gas for a Veteran.
Veterans have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and through this program they can become vital members of their community again. Just small things like paying an electric bill, or a deposit for their apartment, can make the difference on whether or not a Veteran becomes homeless again, finds a job or has food to eat. We also counsel/coach all the Veterans we help through our program to learn financial capabilities to insure they can understand how to maintain a budget.
