Venezuela Earthquake Relief: Meeting Essential Needs, Building With Communities
In La Guaira, Venezuela, a woman named Aura transformed her home into a community kitchen following the June earthquakes. She opened her doors to a displaced family, began preparing more than 100 meals each day for her neighbors, and created a gathering place where people could find food, comfort and support.
All Hands & Hearts partnered with Aura to strengthen what she had already built, providing water filtration systems and training so her community kitchen could also serve as a source of safe drinking water.
Aura's story reflects something we see again and again in disaster response: communities are often their own first responders. Our role is to stand alongside them, providing the tools, resources and practical support that help their efforts reach further.
From Immediate Relief to Essential WASH Services
Following the back-to-back earthquakes on June 24, All Hands & Hearts began delivering emergency drinking water to survivors and search-and-rescue teams. As families remained displaced in temporary shelters, our response evolved to address a wider range of essential needs.
Across La Guaira and surrounding communities, our teams have installed water storage tanks and filtration systems, constructed showers and toilets, and developed the infrastructure needed to make safe water and sanitation accessible in emergency shelter settings.
At Mare Abajo, we constructed 26 showers and installed water tanks and filtration systems. At Golf Caraballeda, four toilets and two showers are helping improve daily hygiene for displaced families. At Centro Cristiano para la Familia, two large water tanks now serve more than 80 people.
Meanwhile, at El Campito, a former baseball field transformed into an emergency shelter, our teams have built elevated platforms to help keep temporary shelters drier and more functional, while also improving access to safe water and shower facilities.
These interventions are about more than infrastructure. A functioning shower, a reliable source of drinking water and a drier place to sleep can make an enormous difference for families navigating displacement.
Expanding Our Emergency WASH Response
All Hands & Hearts has secured an additional $100,000 in funding to expand essential water, sanitation and hygiene assistance in earthquake-affected communities across Venezuela.
This significant investment is expected to help us reach approximately 4,400 people, including 1,200 students at priority schools and 3,200 people in affected households and communities.
Planned activities include improvements to emergency water access, household water filtration and hygiene support, handwashing facilities, and Emergency School WASH services. Specific interventions will be guided by verified needs and conditions at each location.
This additional funding represents an important next step in our response, allowing us to build on work already underway and extend essential services to more families and communities still facing urgent needs.
Standing With Communities
Throughout our Venezuela response, local leaders, volunteers and partner organizations have helped identify needs and deliver assistance where it matters most. From Aura's community kitchen to emergency shelter improvements, these partnerships demonstrate the value of working alongside communities and strengthening the efforts already taking place.
At All Hands & Hearts, emergency response is about more than delivering supplies. It is about helping people regain safety, dignity and the essential routines of everyday life.
As families continue to navigate the aftermath of the earthquakes, our commitment remains clear: to respond to changing needs, support local efforts and help communities move from crisis toward greater stability.
Thank you for standing alongside the people of Venezuela. Your generosity helps make this work possible, bringing practical assistance and renewed hope to families facing an uncertain road ahead.
