The leaves have changed in Santiago, and so have some things at VE! Not only did we finish Orientation with 6 new volunteers, but we also welcome Clémentine Bouchereau as our new Program Director.
Orientation for the new May class was packed full. After 2 challenging, great weeks of orientation, the new volunteers have just finished their third week at their partner organizations. We are proud to have new volunteers from the United States, Poland, Germany and Spain in the new group.
A couple of weekends ago, the new volunteers participated in their first Liga de Deportes! Our professional breakdancer friends Pablo and Claudio led a special breakdance workshop. Kids, volunteers and staff alike had a great time breaking it down and then playing soccer, frisbee and other sports. This month’s theme was active living, as the kids learned about small changes, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, to add to their daily routines in order to get more exercise. We had two MVP kids of the day that went home with a jump rope and a soccer ball as prizes for their great participation.
As we close the 2014 fiscal year, we realize the changes and challenges that lie ahead of us as an organization, but also the tremendous amount of support we have from so many people. For that we want to express our immense gratitude. Without people like you, we wouldn't be able to bring such incredible volunteers from all over the world to make a difference in the lives of the equally incredible children we work with.
