On 5th November 2022 VAP organized its first local fundraising dinner geared towards supporting the construction of VAP’s youth empowerment hub.The facility which will be the pride of the community and a place for youth to have an opportunity for  sports based lifeskills and economic development activities including vocational trainings amongst others is already in action despite not having fully completed.The ground floor rooms are already up and running and could host youth meetings,training of trainers workshops,program meetings including monthly monitoring and evaluation meetings. The football pitch is already running with youth participating in football based programs that include HIV awareness tournaments and other thematic sports based tournaments for both genders boys and girls.The psycho social support room that will provide mental health information and psycho social support services to the youth and the community is on its way to gettting finished with some few works left.The community around and the youth have been streaming in for health information and referrals surrounding different concerns e.g HIV testing,cancer screening etc amongst others.The fundraising drive will enable VAP to finish up some ground floor rooms including:psycho social support unit,library for youth who participate in VAP’s programs to be able to receive the services that they require.Fundraising efforts to complete other units including:vocational training,Gender Based Recovery Unit,Health unit and others is still going on and VAP is humbly making an appeal from well wishers and other potential partners to contribute and help empower the future.

The entire Vijana Amani Pamoja is privileged to bring to your attention a brief progress report of its ongoing construction of Youth Empowerment Centre.The centre that will serve as a place of pride for the youth and the entire community who will have an opportunity to gather,play,learn and grow together.Already,the building is taking shape but more support is needed from different corporates,individuals and foundation to complete all the empowerment units as planned:

-Vocational training centre- where youth will have a place to put into practicals various vocational training courses of their choice.

-Health Clinic- A youth friendly clinic where youth will access various services including HIV testing,voluntary counselling,cancer screening and other health referrals.

-Gender Based Recovery Unit-A place where girls and young women will reside as a safe heaven as they receive counseling while participating into vocational training courses of their choices.

-Pyscho social support Unit-A youth friendly unit where youth and the general community will access information on mental health and psycho social support.

-Library-A safe heaven place for youth to access educational information,revision and tuitorial support.

-Football/Soccer Pitch- A place for youth to gather,play and learn lifeskills as they develop their sporting talents.

Basketball Court- A place for youth to gather,play and learn lifeskills as they develop their sporting talents.

Construction of VAP’s new Youth Empowerment Centre under the ‘Empower The Future’ drive got underway in the month of march witnessed by community members, program participants and a few invited guests including partners, parents, well-wishers and like-minded organizations. The center which is a place of pride and a hub for the youth and the community to gather, meet and grow together will consist of: vocational training Centre, Health clinic, gender based recovery block, library, research and development unit, common space, volunteer accommodation, football pitch and a basketball court. The facility will create a safe space and a youth friendly environment for participants to: play. Learn and grow as they aspire to achieve their life dreams both socially and economically. Making The Cut Community Sessions

53 young lads from different local communities gathered in a safe space to play ‘Make The Cut activities and later on have a candid discussion on issues surrounding voluntary medical male circumcision, (VMMC). Led by Skillz coaches, participants were taken through ‘Make The Cut’ football based activities that are coiled with circumcision messages. Make The Cut activities are tailor made to promote voluntary medical male circumcision targeting adolescent boys and young men. The team gathered together to have candid discussions on issues circumcision and its benefits towards preventing HIV.Also invited to provide more information on voluntary medical male circumcision were EDERP clinic representatives who have been VAP’s health service providers for a long time. A total of over 35 adolescent boys and young men were referred for VMMC services at the clinic

Launching Soccer Academy

Riding on the back of VAP’s new ‘Youth Empowerment Centre’ that’s currently underway, the month of February witnessed the launching of VAP’s soccer academy at VAP’s new facility which brought together 40 children both boys and girls from different neighboring schools and community centres that participated in the first training sessions conducted by VAP’s football coaches. The academy will serve as a safe space for the youth as they acquire other side benefits that are attached to life skills. The launch was boosted by football kits which included: balls, bibs, goal nets, whistles, first aid kits and football cones donated by uefa foundation. Football sessions and life skills will be conducted on weekends including school holidays as other health service providing tents will be pitched alongside to provide health services including: hiv voluntary counselling and testing and referrals to the general community.

A New Employee At QuickMart Stores

21-year-old Batuli is the new employee at Quickmart chain of stores, Ruai branch this month of February. A footballer by DNA, Batuli got involved with VAP sports and life skills programs at the age of 12 years old right from the primary school, and into her secondary school. After her life skills graduations, she was integrated into VAP’s Employment and Entrepreneurship project where she was enrolled into vocational training to pursue bakery. Immediately after her graduation she was attached for internship opportunity at the Quickmart stores and ended up getting a job at the store’s bakery department. “Am happy for the life skills knowledge and the bakery course that I did while at VAP.Am now economically independent and supporting my two younger siblings: brother and sister with their school fees and books.” Said Batuli.

 Digital Marketing For Vocational Training Participants

With the aftermath of covid-19 still being experienced in every sphere of live including health sector and loss of livelihoods, VAP’s Employment and Entrepreneurship department has been engaged in digital marketing trainings. The trainings are targeting girls who have gone through various vocational training courses and are about to venture into their own businesses and those whose businesses were affected by covid-19 outbreak. A total of 15 girls have been enrolled into the digital marketing training where they have so far covered trainings on: Digital marketing and e-commerce, transcription and video captioning, writing and translation, data entry management and virtual assistance. Participants are now owning online work accounts in various platforms and are engaged into the second part of training. “I feel so proud to bring my business which was affected by covid-19 online and venture into online business where I can do marketing and deliveries to my potential clients.” Said 21 years old Fatuma.
