Van for Shelter for Abused Women and Children
The Ark Foundation started a campaign in February 2021, to raise funds to purchase a vehicle for its shelter for abused women and children in Ghana. The organization is in dire need of a vehicle to facilitate the safe movement of clients to and from the shelter when the need arises without jeopardizing their security. The vehicle will convey them to the hospital, police, and courts and for emergency purposes such as rescuing survivors or medical emergencies.
A target of $20 000 was set to be able to acquire the vehicle and cover other operational costs such as fuel, maintenance, salary for a driver, fumigation, and insurance among others. So far an amount of $225 has been raised as of Friday, August 20, 2021. This amount will cover the insurance cost for a year.
The operational cost of the organization continues to rise as it continues to resort to hiring vehicles to transport clients to and from the shelter. Movements continue to be a challenge as emergencies particularly in the middle of the night sometimes are impossible.
The van will help The Ark transport more survivors to the shelter and help observe the COVID-19 protocols without putting their lives at risk. It will also facilitate the safe and secure movement of clients to and from the shelter. The Ark Foundation is very grateful to all donors who have supported this cause so far and continues to count on your assistance to be able to respond effectively and efficiently to survivors of gender-based violence in Ghana.
