The van will be used to transport survivors of domestic violence to a safe space. It will also facilitate the safe movement of survivors from the shelter to the hospital, courts, police station, and to get supplies.
The Ark runs a shelter for abused women and their children as well as sexually assaulted young girls. This requires the safe movement of survivors from their abusive homes to the shelter. The Shelter is mandated by law to have a vehicle to faciltate movements; from the shelter to the hospital, police station, courts, running general errands and conducting social enquiry. The increase in cases of abuse during this COVID-19 period has increased our clientele making the need for a van of urgency.
The van will help The Ark transport more survivors to the shelter and help observe the COVID-19 protocols without putting their lives at risk. It will also facilitate safe and secured movement of clients from the shelter to the hospital, courts, police without fear as well as running errands for the shelter.
The van will reduce the operational cost of hiring vehicles to transport survivors to and from the shelter and also to the courts, hospitals, police, etc. It will also facilitate emergency movements particularly in the middle of the night.
