Over 1% of the population, more than 2 million American men and women have served in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting the global war on terror. As they return home, many with the invisible wounds of PTSD, they face tremendous challenges -- unemployment, poverty and homelessness. Help 3 Generations tell the stories of our returning heroes, help us raise awareness of the crises they face. Hear their stories.
Returning veterans face huge challenges: they must reintegrate to civilian life, find jobs, deal with the invisible wounds of war as well as their outward scars. Most Americans are unaware of the prolonged struggle of our returning troops -- the war of reintegration. 3 Generations' project focuses on unemployment, homelessness and PTSD as the leading hardships confronting veterans.
To check this growing sense of social isolation and hopelessness, veterans need a forum to share their stories where they know they'll be heard and understood -- a community where both the storyteller and the listener can begin to heal. Through personal stories of returning veterans -- some who have found employment and are helping their fellow vets, some who are struggling with PTSD, and others who are homeless, we will bring the issues to light are and examine ways to address them.
We record the experiences of our veterans for posterity. Providing avenues to share stories honors those who have defended our nation, fosters the healing process for those who are struggling, and inspires all of us to support returning veterans now and always.
