PHASE-III- USBC-PRE-UTTARAYAN-PREPARATORY WORK:

We are now in our third phase of getting prepared for tackling Avian Emergency situations during kite-festival with few days left.

Following are the different activities we took over within last month :

(i)  Preparation of Bird registration desk and facilities for taking care of injured birds being brought to us in different areas of the city:

Through awareness programs and meetings by the rescuers where we involved local community also, made our efforts to create camps and safety tents in different areas in the city for rescuing injured birds successful which would help volunteers to rescue injured birds on calls without wasting much time in covering distances to reach hospital for treatment.

(ii)  School Awareness Programs:

Within a week our  volunteer teams covered almost 9 schools both private and government, to spread awareness about the harmful side of kite festival and how to have a safe kite-flying for themselves as well as  harmless ,happy and safe flight for our birds too during festival period.

Students happily and excitedly gave a positive response to be careful in enjoying the festival and also promised to rescue birds in distress.

They were explained how to reach us through helpline numbers so that injured birds could be saved.

(iii) Community Awareness Camp:

Awareness camps were organised in different areas in the city as well ouside city to create awareness and sensitivity among local community through lectures, distributing leaflets, display of posters and placards.

Thousand of visitors turned in to visit these camps and get knowledge about work being done by our organisation. They promised to use the helpline numbers to save as much injured bird lives they can and spread knowledge to their friends and other people about hazards of insensitive celebrations leading to fatalities for innocent animals and birds.

(iv) In-house volunteer training programs:

(a)  School Awareness-Volunteer Team Training program :-

Volunteers were trained to present the awareness kit in the form of ppts and videos to thousand of school  students , teachers and other staff with practical demonstration so that innocent souls and heart could be touched and stirred to bring about a change in their lives for the welfare of innocent and ownerless animal lives.

(b)  Visiting Vet-Training Programs by our Clinical Director:-

Almost 100 international and national Vets have started coming to our hospital to assist our doctors and staff

They are given prior orientation and training by our Head doctor to understand the local species and different medical and medicinal procedures. They are given daily tasks to tackle injured birds and explained how to assist each other during emergency situation.

(c)   In-house staff training to handle different sized birds:

Our head Vet also gives training to our staff to efficiently handle different sized birds so that time is not wasted in providing successful treatment to them.

(d)  Meetings and training volunteers for allotment of different departments to work efficiently.

(v) In-house pre- uttarayan preparatory activities by staff and volunteers:

(a) Preparation of different sized towel boxes for rescuing and transporting birds of different species and sizes.

(b) Vet- duty and injured bird-case files being prepared by volunteers.

(c)  Cotton-balls and gauze-pieces being prepared in bulk to prevent bleeding.

(d)  Perching prepared for birds

(e) Transporting of animal interaction area boxes

And many more work still would go on for the next few days.

Its 24x7 work for the staff and volunteers to successfully complete the preparation work for overcoming the huge rush of injured birds in coming days as a result of festival of kite-flying.

But nothing would be possible without your kind support and donations.

We are grateful for your continuous support and cooperation to keep us moving towards completion of our mission to save thousand of birds brought to our hospital for treatment and relocation.
