In a region with many natural resources, FORUDEF plans to produce and sell fresh fruit juice in local markets to generate income to manage and maintain its' projects and initiatives. Additionally, FORUDEF will train local women in processing and marketing techniques to empower them with the skills to excel economically.
For many NGOs in Cameroon, their areas of intervention are determined by available funding sources. As a result, their initiatives are directed by those providing the funds. For FORUDEF, this is often the case. To allow us to pursue our own mandate uninterruptedly, maintain the functioning of our NGO, and carry out interventions in the communities we have committed to supporting, we need to generate more income independently.
This project will take advantage of Buea's wealth of natural resources. There are an abundance of tropical fruits in the region; however, very little of this is processed into fresh juice. We at FORUDEF plan to seize this incredible opportunity by processing local fruit into juice, bottling the product, and selling it in local markets. The profits from these juice sales will be used to maintain the functioning of FORUDEF and provide the funds to allow us to pursue initiatives within our mandate.
In addition to meeting FORUDEF's financial needs, the fresh fruit juice project will be used to train thirty women. Women will be provided with a fruit processor and trained with processing, marketing, and entrepreneurial skills. This will allow them to create their own business and earn an income while providing the community with a healthy and nutritious product. The long term goal is to be self-sufficient as an organization while also empowering women with the skills to succeed economically.
