On October 30, the Community of Valencia and other regions were affected by what the Meteorology State Agency calls the worst natural phenomenon of the century, with over 200 lives lost and thousands facing material losses. Mensajeros de la Paz began helping families from day one after the passage of the DANA storm, adapting to the needs of the affected towns and collaborating with municipalities, other organisations, and the community, to provide immediate and ongoing support.
Thousands of people have lost everything they owned and are in need of food, clothing, hygiene and cleaning supplies, and housing. With our own centres located throughout the Community of Valencia, we were directly impacted, suffering floods and losses, but we acted very quickly due to our proximity to the disaster areas.
Currently, our actions are focused on: - Providing hot meals to affected families and the personnel working in the area. - Distributing food, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products, both at our centres and directly to homes. - Offering shower and hygiene facilities through our Hygiene Bus, which travels daily to different towns. - Providing temporary free housing to affected families through an agreement with Airbnb.
We are responding to an urgent need. Our plan is to start responding to the necessities of the moment.
