Rebuilding in Valencia After the DANA

We remain in the intervention phase of our post-DANA response, with current efforts focused on children and older adults, two groups particularly affected by the prolonged impact of the emergency.

Since January, we have launched two key initiatives. “Teléfono Amigo”, based in Algemesí, provides telephone companionship and emotional support to older adults experiencing increased loneliness after the disaster. Through active listening, the service helps reduce isolation and improve emotional well-being.

We have also opened “La Casita de Algemesí”, a socio-educational space in the Raval neighborhood for children ages 6 to 12 living in vulnerable situations. Over a 15-month period, the project will offer educational, recreational, and emotional support activities, creating a safe and positive environment that helps children regain stability and routine.

At the same time, we are in the final stage of distributing essential furniture, household items, and basic equipment to affected families, a crucial step in restoring dignified living conditions in damaged homes.

We are pleased to share the latest progress on our ongoing efforts to support families affected by the DANA more than a year ago. Mensajeros de la Paz remains focused on the recovery phase, working to restore homes and ensure dignified living conditions. We have continued delivering essential household appliances and materials directly to families in the hardest-hit municipalities. We continue to stand by the most vulnerable, giving priority to seniors and families struggling with limited means.
