Project Report | Oct 20, 2026
Protecting Households and Frontline Workers

By Development Alert | Project Leader

Dear Donor,

Thank you for making Development Alert’s community-focused health work possible. As Ebola cases continue to be reported in the region, protecting households, health workers, and other people who may be exposed remains a critical priority.

Kenya’s confirmed cases have risen to nine as of 20 October 2026, all linked to the initial case. In the DRC, the outbreak has reached eight provinces, with more than 9,400 confirmed cases and 4,500 related deaths reported by 18 October. These developments reinforce the need for consistent infection prevention and strong cooperation between communities and health authorities.

Practical prevention begins with everyday actions: following official health guidance, washing hands with soap and safe water, avoiding contact with bodily fluids or contaminated materials, and seeking prompt medical advice if symptoms develop after a possible exposure. People caring for sick relatives should follow instructions from trained health workers rather than attempting unsafe home care.

Development Alert’s community preparedness priorities include sharing accurate prevention information, encouraging safe hygiene practices, supporting vulnerable households where resources allow, and helping communities understand when and where to seek assistance. These measures can reduce avoidable exposure and help people respond to public health messages with confidence rather than fear.

We also recognize the importance of protecting frontline workers through appropriate protective equipment, training, and safe procedures led by responsible health authorities. No individual or family should face an outbreak without reliable information and compassionate support.

Your generosity helps make community awareness and preparedness possible. Thank you for helping Development Alert promote prevention, dignity, and solidarity during this challenging period.
