Dear Donor,
Thank you for your continued support of Development Alert’s work to strengthen community resilience and Ebola preparedness. The latest figures from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) underline the urgent need for sustained prevention and response efforts.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as of 18 October 2026, the DRC had recorded 9,455 confirmed Ebola cases and 4,561 related deaths. A total of 2,530 people had recovered, while 925 patients were hospitalized in isolation. The outbreak had spread across eight provinces, including newly affected North Ubangi.
These figures represent families affected by illness and loss, health workers facing demanding conditions, and communities that need timely information and reliable support. The outbreak involves Bundibugyo virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment. This makes early detection, appropriate medical care, infection prevention, contact monitoring, and community engagement especially important.
Development Alert recognizes that effective preparedness must reach beyond health facilities. Communities need understandable prevention messages, access to basic hygiene materials, and support that enables vulnerable households to follow public health guidance. Coordination with trained health authorities and trusted local leaders is also essential to counter misinformation and encourage people to seek help promptly.
Your support helps sustain the community-focused work needed during a fast-changing public health emergency. Thank you for standing with Development Alert as we work to promote safer, better-informed, and more resilient communities.
