This past year has challenged many in our community as they struggled to provide the most basic needs for their families during the Covid pandemic. The female heads of household faced the brunt of this, but through your generosity, you helped us deliver over 5,000 pounds of rice, pasta, cooking oil, and lemons into our students' homes! Additionally, each home received a three-month supply of soap. These relief items have directly impacted our community's health and well-being during a pandemic that stripped so many of food security and livelihoods. These are hardworking women with entire households depending on them.
As we asked for your support, Studio Samuel was also called upon by local officials to help. Our sewing lab, known in the community for providing menstrual kits (from our sewing students who make & distribute the kits) pivoted to make PPE for local health officials. Our students made over 1,000 masks which were given to local hospitals and clinics.
Key to this, our students who are born into extreme poverty understand empathy. They also learn they have the skills from their occupational training courses to give back to others, lifting their community as you've helped lift them.
We're grateful for your support and pleased to share that since this campaign launched, we've received two Certificates of Achievement from the local agencies for our Covid relief efforts - made possible by you.
Thank you!

When we launched the Covid Relief campaign, our focus was on providing food security for our students' caregivers. Many of these women are the sole breadwinners and lost their jobs when the pandemic hit our community.
During a distribution drop, we learned of an equally important, yet unexpected, need. Without an income, these women could no longer afford menstrual supplies. They resorted to cutting mattress stuffing, curtains, and random fabrics in their homes to use as alternatives. The other option? Stay in their homes during menstruation.
To meet this need, Studio Samuel's sewing students pivoted once again. From first sewing menstrual kits for their peers to stay in school during their periods, then PPE masks for healthcare workers. Now they're making menstrual kits, except this time, the kits were for their caregivers. A menstrual kit is now included in each Covid Relief package thanks to YOU!
In addition to keeping their families healthy during this time of uncertainty, your support has created a sense of freedom for these women.
We thank you for being on this journey with us and wish each of you health and safety.

While our students remained at home due to Covid, their computer lab became a temporary holding space for relief supplies donated by the incredibly gracious GlobalGiving community.
To date, you've helped us deliver over 5,000 pounds of rice, pasta, cooking oil, and lemons into our students' homes! Additionally, each home received a three month supply of soap. The girls' caregivers are immensely grateful for your overwhelming support, as your gifts have kept food on their tables and as of this writing, all remain symptom-free.
On behalf of our community, thank you for finding the space to help during this unprecedented time.
