When we launched the Covid Relief campaign, our focus was on providing food security for our students' caregivers. Many of these women are the sole breadwinners and lost their jobs when the pandemic hit our community.
During a distribution drop, we learned of an equally important, yet unexpected, need. Without an income, these women could no longer afford menstrual supplies. They resorted to cutting mattress stuffing, curtains, and random fabrics in their homes to use as alternatives. The other option? Stay in their homes during menstruation.
To meet this need, Studio Samuel's sewing students pivoted once again. From first sewing menstrual kits for their peers to stay in school during their periods, then PPE masks for healthcare workers. Now they're making menstrual kits, except this time, the kits were for their caregivers. A menstrual kit is now included in each Covid Relief package thanks to YOU!
In addition to keeping their families healthy during this time of uncertainty, your support has created a sense of freedom for these women.
