From Dependence to Dignity: Your Lasting Impact

SUPPORTING DAIRY CATLE FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS
SUPPORTING DAIRY CATLE FOR SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS

Dear GlobalGiving Donors and Supporters,

Your generosity is transforming lives in Yemen—turning hardship into hope, dependence into self-reliance, and humanitarian assistance into sustainable livelihoods.

Thanks to your compassion, vulnerable families affected by devastating floods, displacement, and years of conflict are receiving more than temporary relief. You are giving them an opportunity to earn a living, provide for their children, rebuild their independence, and restore their dignity.

On behalf of the Support Yemeni Society Foundation (SYS), we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your continued generosity and commitment to our project, “Urgent Appeal for Assistance to Flooding in Yemen.”

Your Support Is Creating Lasting Change

With your generous contributions and the invaluable support of the GlobalGiving Hope in Crisis Fund, SYS launched the Hope in Crisis Grant 2025: Yemen Community Project, locally known as “My Cow Is My Wealth,” in Hajjah Governorate.

Through this livelihood initiative, 20 highly vulnerable and displaced families have each received a dairy cow, providing them with a productive asset that can supply nutritious milk, generate household income, and create opportunities for long-term economic stability.

This is more than livestock assistance. It is an investment in human dignity, food security, and a future where families can support themselves rather than depend entirely on emergency aid.

Turning Your Generosity into Sustainable Livelihoods

Building on the achievements shared in our previous reports, the SYS team has continued implementing activities designed to strengthen the project's sustainability and maximize its benefits:

  • Livelihood Training and Awareness: Equipping beneficiary families with practical knowledge of livestock management, proper feeding, animal health, and dairy production.
  • Fodder and Veterinary Support: Providing essential animal feed and veterinary care to protect the cows' health, productivity, and long-term value.
  • Milk Marketing Opportunities: Establishing practical mechanisms to help families market surplus milk and generate income to meet their basic needs.
  • Expanding Benefits to More Families: Developing a transparent mechanism, with clear eligibility criteria, for transferring future calves to additional vulnerable households.
  • Monitoring and Sustainability: Conducting follow-up visits to assess animal welfare, household benefits, and progress toward sustainable livelihoods.

In addition, SYS distributed 20 food baskets to highly vulnerable, flood-affected families, helping address urgent food needs while strengthening longer-term livelihood opportunities.

Real Stories, Real Impact: From Vulnerability to Self-Reliance

Behind every donated cow is a family striving for a better future. In the Ruba' community of Hajjah Governorate, your generosity is already making a meaningful difference.

Fatima's Story: Restoring Dignity Through Livelihoods

Fatima, a widowed mother of six children, struggled for years to provide for her family and relied heavily on humanitarian assistance.

Today, thanks to your generosity, her life is beginning to change.

The dairy cow she received provides milk for her household and an opportunity to earn income. Fatima reports selling approximately four liters of milk daily at Bani Qais market, helping her meet her children's essential needs.

For Fatima, the impact extends far beyond financial assistance. Having a productive asset means being able to work, contribute to her family's well-being, and regain a sense of independence and dignity.

Your donation has helped give Fatima something invaluable: the opportunity to provide for her children through her own efforts.

Shuai's Story: Turning Livestock into Economic Opportunity

For Shuai' Saeed, a 55-year-old farmer, limited technical knowledge had long prevented him from realizing the full potential of livestock farming.

Through the project's practical training in animal nutrition, livestock management, and marketing, Shuai' has gained valuable skills to improve productivity.

He reports that daily milk production increased from four liters to seven liters following improvements in animal care and feeding practices.

Today, he approaches livestock farming not merely as a traditional activity, but as a productive economic opportunity that can strengthen his family's financial security.

These stories demonstrate how your compassion can help turn a single productive asset into a pathway toward food security, income, and renewed hope.

Your Impact Can Continue for Generations

The value of your support does not end with today's milk production or income.

With proper care, continued training, and responsible livestock management, these cows can provide ongoing benefits through dairy production and future offspring. The project's calf-transfer mechanism is also intended to extend these benefits to additional eligible families.

Your generosity is helping build a cycle of opportunity—where one family's progress can eventually create hope for another.

Help Us Reach More Families

Although these achievements are encouraging, thousands of families across Yemen continue to struggle with the devastating consequences of conflict, flooding, displacement, and poverty.

Together, we can move more families beyond emergency assistance toward lasting self-reliance.

We warmly invite you to consider making a Monthly Donation. Even a small recurring gift can help sustain our humanitarian efforts and create new livelihood opportunities for vulnerable families.

You can also help by sharing our project with your friends and family.

Because of you, families are not only receiving assistance—they are rebuilding their livelihoods, reclaiming their independence, and restoring their dignity.

Thank you for believing in the resilience of Yemeni families and for making sustainable change possible.
