Dear GlobalGiving Donors and Supporters,

On behalf of the Support Yemeni Society Organization, we extend our sincere gratitude for your generous contribution to our project "Urgent Appeal for Assistance to Flooding in Yemen."Your compassion has been a vital lifeline for families affected by flooding, displacement, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

With your support and through the generous contribution of the GlobalGiving Hope in Crisis Fund, SYS launched the “My Cow is My Wealth” project in Hajja Governorate. This initiative is designed to provide sustainable livelihood support to 20 displaced and highly vulnerable families by helping them own productive cattle that can generate food, income, and long-term stability.

In our previous report, we shared the initial steps taken to begin this important project. During the first phase, the SYS team successfully completed the following activities:

  • Regulatory compliance: Secured the necessary permits and approvals from the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant local authorities in Hajja.
  • Community engagement: Conducted a baseline survey and formed a local community team to support implementation and coordination.
  • Beneficiary selection: Identified and selected the most vulnerable displaced households based on clear vulnerability criteria.
  • Procurement and preparation: Managed a transparent public tender process for livestock procurement.
  • Awareness and training: Conducted essential sessions for participating families on cattle care, feeding, hygiene, and disease prevention.

During the second phase, SYS continued implementation with careful attention to quality, accountability, and sustainability. The team carried out the following steps:

  • Purchase and preparation of cattle: The approved supplier provided cattle in full compliance with the agreed technical specifications and contract terms.
  • Health quarantine: The cattle were placed under quarantine to ensure their health, support logistical readiness, and prevent the spread of infection.
  • Vaccination and preventive care: Required official vaccinations and preventive doses were administered to strengthen the cattle’s immunity before transportation.
  • Tagging and documentation: Each cow was tagged with a numbered plastic ear tag to create an accurate database and support future monitoring and evaluation.
  • Distribution to beneficiaries: The cattle were transported and officially handed over to eligible families using signed and documented handover forms.

The happiness and gratitude of the targeted families were truly inspiring. For these families, receiving a cow is not only an emergency response; it is a pathway toward dignity, resilience, and self-reliance. Over time, the families are expected to benefit from milk production, dairy products such as cheese and yogurt, possible income generation, and improved household nutrition. This support also strengthens their ability to recover from a crisis and build a more secure future.

SYS will continue monitoring the supported families to ensure that the cattle are well cared for and that the project achieves its intended impact. We will also follow up on how families begin to benefit from this support in their daily lives.
