De La Gente creates economic opportunities for over 140 small-scale coffee producers in Guatemala. By providing skills, knowledge, tools, and a relationship-based trade model, we enable producers to build sustainable and profitable businesses with long-term viability-where consumers and producers exchange knowledge and form meaningful connections that go beyond transactions. This project focuses on training the next generation of coffee producers to ensure a resilient and sustainable future.
In Guatemala, 97% of coffee producers are small-scale farmers, yet they receive the lowest prices in the coffee value chain and lack access to fair markets and affordable financing. As a result, many coffee-growing families in rural communities struggle to meet basic needs and remain trapped in poverty. With limited opportunities, some farmers are forced to migrate in search of work, leading to a loss of skilled labor and weakening the long-term sustainability of coffee-growing communities.
De La Gente (DLG) supports small-scale coffee producers in Guatemala by providing access to markets, training, and financing. Through its capacity-building program, this project will train a cooperative of young coffee entrepreneurs in sustainable agriculture practices to improve coffee quality, productivity, and climate resilience. By building skills and viable local livelihoods, the project strengthens the long-term sustainability of coffee-growing communities.
This project will create lasting economic opportunities for young coffee producers by strengthening skills in sustainable agriculture and specialty coffee production. Over time, higher-quality coffee and improved productivity will increase household incomes, reduce youth migration, and retain skilled labor within coffee-growing communities. By empowering a new generation of environmentally responsible entrepreneurs, the project will contribute to climate resilience, stronger local leadership.
