Almost three years after COVID-19 saw schools closed for 32 months, 9 out of 10 children in the Philippines remain trapped in learning poverty. They face losing their education if they are not supported with improved access to learning. FundLife launched 'Uplift Education' as a direct response, providing children with access to digital training, community mentors and experiential learning through play.
The Philippines has long been battling widespread poverty and extreme income inequality. COVID-19 has only exacerbated struggles for the most vulnerable groups. Children are in danger of losing their education and getting left behind. In the communities we work, data shows that over 80% of children are severely behind their learning, while over 45% are on the verge of dropping, while 3 in 4 houses do not have internet, making it impossible for children from poverty to learn from home.
FundLife directly supports the current education and opportunity emergency by providing digital inclusion and learning to the most vulnerable communities. We are starting with web 1.0 connectivity for 1,000 schools, giving over 1,250,000 children access to digital learning and local mentors and digital learning resources, allowing them to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
The potential long-term impact will see children stay in school and begin to reverse the alarming trend of over 90% of all learners staying in educational poverty. to reach one million marginalised children across the Philippines at risk of missing out on the gift of quality education. Failing to reach them now could mean failing to protect them from receiving a safe childhood and access to decent and dignified employment once they grow up.
