Challenge

In Homa Bay, Kenya, poverty affects 40% of the population, with women disproportionately impacted. The county's 26% HIV rate exacerbates economic vulnerability, especially for single mothers. Limited access to education, resources, and opportunities perpetuates a cycle of generational poverty among women, hampering their ability to support families and contribute economically. This project aims to break this cycle by empowering 15 women with skills and resources to launch sustainable businesses.

Solution

This project builds entrepreneurs through a comprehensive approach. Participants complete a six-module program covering business fundamentals, tailored for women with limited formal education. Ongoing support from certified coaches and site visits help address challenges and identify growth opportunities. Upon completion, participants receive small start-up grants to launch their meticulously researched and planned businesses. This holistic method create sustainable enterprises.

Long-Term Impact

This project will launch 15 new businesses in Homa Bay, building on our successful incubator that has already established 120 individual enterprises and 1 women's business group. Todate the program's impact tracker shows a 120% increase in household income for participants. Women entrepreneurs prioritise savings, primarily investing in their children's education and healthcare. By expanding this incubator, continue to drive economic growth, empower women, and break the cycle of poverty.
