Hurricane ETA has deepened the challenges in the areas of economy, health and education that the most vulnerable communities in Honduras faced due to the almost 10 months of confinement as a preventive measure against COVID - 19. While we work supporting families affected by Storm ETA, Hurricane Iota arrived in our country leaving more rain and destruction, floods and landslides could be aggravated by the effects of both hurricanes in less than 15 days, affecting the same areas.
The entire country is on a red alert, the most affected communities are in the northern part of the country and in the departments of Olancho and Francisco Morazan. More than 1.5 millon people been affected, some of them are in shelters or waiting for rescue teams to go to safer places. These numbers will continue to increase once the isolated communities can be reached.
We are requesting the support of companies, foundations and individuals by donating resources that allow us to meet the most basic needs of food, hygiene and shelter, several companies have contacted us and offered donations to be channeled through our organization. We have a network of allies at the community level that guarantee transparency and good management of each of the donations.
This aid will allow families to meet their basic needs when they return to their homes and communities and rebuild their lives. The work at the level of our community partners will allow us to continue benefiting affected communities through our programs and projects.
