Three Media Classrooms in Matamoros! Mid-Project Report

We are excited to share the halfway progress of our mission in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, where we are transforming the educational landscape for three primary schools: "General Francisco J. Mujica," "Adalberto J. Argüelles," and "Francisco Zarco". Thanks to the collective support of our partners like CAAAREM and LDS Charities, we have successfully equipped these schools with 51 computers dedicated to pedagogical purposes, providing 1,490 students and 60 educators with the tools to navigate the digital age.

For many students in these marginalized communities, the Media Classroom is their first and only contact with a computer. Mtra. Laura Martina Patricia González, from the Francisco Zarco school, describes this space as a "door open to knowledge" that allows children to transform how they learn. Her students, who previously lacked any technology at home, are now creating their own email accounts, researching local topics on Google, and designing creative presentations in PowerPoint.

Through our Program of School Strengthening (PFE), we don't just deliver hardware; we provide a full school year of pedagogical accompaniment. Our facilitators have already conducted 341 accompaniment sessions to help teachers integrate technology into their daily lessons.

The results are inspiring:
  • Generative AI in Primary School: Teachers like Mtra. Blanca Nydia Lugo are already using Artificial Intelligence (NotebookLM) as a safe research assistant for 4th-grade students, helping them improve their vocabulary and critical thinking.
  • Tangible Learning: Students have produced 45 distinct learning products, ranging from digital mind maps and comics to podcasts and short videos reflecting their school subjects.
  • Teacher Growth: On average, participating teachers have advanced 1 to 2 levels in the European Framework for Digital Competence (MCDD), moving from "Novices" to "Integrators" and "Experts".
The success of this project lies in the voluntary participation and enthusiasm of the school community. We have seen a clear increase in student motivation; they are now more curious, ask more complex questions, and explore the world through tools like Google Maps. This mid-project milestone proves that when technology is coupled with human mentorship, the digital gap begins to close.
As we move into the second half of the school cycle, your continued support ensures that these teachers receive the certification and training necessary to make this change permanent"The sky is the limit".
