Over 2.8 million conflict-affected people have fled Ukraine including 127,000 Third Country Nationals (TCNs) and crossed into neighboring countries to date. It's still winter in Ukraine, and those who fled their homes do not have much more than the clothes on their backs. Residents who have not been able to leave their homes in Ukraine have limited access to essential services, cash, and humanitarian items. The situation is getting critical by the hour.
The increasing intensity of the conflict has contributed to growing internal displacement and cross-border movement. Over 2.8 Million people have crossed into neighboring countries, with still more projected to come. The current situation is exacerbating an already dire humanitarian emergency in the Donbas region and generating new multi-sectorial needs across the country. Food insecurity and medical needs are projected to rise considerably as more people are displaced.
IOM's Flash Appeal for Ukraine and Neighbouring Countries seeks to mobilize resources in order to meet the needs of crisis-affected people inside Ukraine and its neighboring countries. Areas of Response within the appeal will include: Shelter/NFI Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Protection Health Multipurpose Cash Assistance Food Security and Livelihoods Site Management Support Displacement Tracking Humanitarian BorderManagement Voluntary Humanitarian Return forThird-Country Nationals Logistics.
The Organization has a large operational footprint and capacity across Ukraine and neighboring countries and is expanding its assistance to vulnerable populations with whom it has been working since 2014, and to meet emerging needs of newly conflict-displaced people and vulnerable populations. We will continue to operate in a neutral and impartial manner, prioritizing the humanitarian imperative.
