Two disabled children from the same poor family live in KGF, Karnataka, India. While one boy child aged 10 years is blind and is awaiting an eye surgery, the other girl child aged 2 years, needs to be operated for her speech disability. It is sad that so many families have more than one child with a disability. Through this project Balajothi hopes to create a strong support mechanism among the underprivileged disabled community.
The disabled families in the defunct gold mining town of KGF, Karnataka, India, faces a huge challenge of children with multiple disabilities, in the same family. This could be attributed to the environment or family background but the fact remains that several families face this situation. Families find it difficult to relocate to other towns or cities for obvious economic reasons. The end result is they are forced to live and die in pain and suffering.
While this project cannot alleviate the problem Balajothi hopes to bring a measure of support and comfort to these helpless children. We provide nutrition, medicines and health care to starving deserving children. The mothers and family members receive training to handle emergencies and also share their knowledge with neighbours.
The magnitude of the problem is very severe and cannot be alleviated without governmental support and social involvement. Our focus and attention will be directed towards providing support and confidence building activities among such families.
