In Syria, the energy transition is not merely an ecological option or a modernization choice, but a vital necessity for socio-economic survival. The relentless decay of national infrastructure, coupled with continuous increases in fossil fuel prices, reaching recent spikes of +28% for gasoline and +40% for diesel has rendered the current energy model entirely unsustainable. With the state power grid able to supply only a few hours of electricity per day and the costs of private diesel generators reaching prohibitive figures for most of the population, access to energy has become one of the primary drivers of impoverishment and social paralysis.

In this emergency scenario, shifting toward renewable sources, and decentralized solar power in particular, represents the only concrete way forward to ensure continuity for daily life and essential services. Installing photovoltaic systems equipped with battery storage frees families and community facilities from fuel price volatility, turning energy autonomy into a crucial pillar of humanitarian response and human dignity.

Pro Terra Sancta's commitment on the ground responds directly to this structural urgency. Building on the 363 systems already installed, the demand for assistance remains extremely high: the target for 2026 is to reach an additional 360 vulnerable families, eliminating their generator expenses and securing a stable supply of light, water, and heating. At the same time, the intervention extends to community spaces where the lack of energy jeopardizes the future and health of the most fragile. In East Aleppo, installing 36 solar panels will allow the association's 4 educational centers to welcome over 4,400 children every day in well-lit classrooms with access to clean water. Parallelly, the action plan supports two elderly care homes: the San Vincenzo Residence in Aleppo (28 residents, requiring 24 panels) and the facility in Al-Muzieneh (34 residents, requiring 30 panels). The 54 total solar panels dedicated to these two centers will guarantee the uninterrupted operation of medical equipment, medicine refrigeration, and heating systems.
