Support for Syrian refugees in Turkiye

Hajar and her children
Hajar and her children

A decade ago, Abdul fled to Türkiye with his family, escaping the war in Syria. Initially, they faced significant challenges adjusting to their new environment. However, they gradually settled into their new life until the devastating earthquakes of February 6, 2023, forced them to start over once again. Similarly, Hajar, a Syrian mother of seven, lost her home in the earthquakes and struggled to meet her family's daily needs.

In October 2024, Abdul and Hajar's families were among 2,450 recipients of a program implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with local authorities and the European Union. The assistance provided families supplies, clothing, and medical care.

Abdul´s youngest daughter's excitement over new school supplies highlighted the program's positive impact on their lives. Moreover, the assistance provided psychological relief and enabled support for children's education. Despite ongoing challenges, beneficiaries remain hopeful for her children's future.

The stories of Abdul and Hajar illustrate how multipurpose cash assistance (MPCA) programs help displaced families rebuild their lives, ensuring access to education, medical care, and other essential services. Continued donor support is crucial for sustaining these initiatives and providing hope and stability to those in need.
