Hurricane Iota (Category 5 storm) hit Central America in November, bringing catastrophic winds and a life-threatening storm surge. Iota's arrival comes as the region is still recovering from Hurricane Eta. The emergency in the face of storms and the global context of the Covid-19 pandemic increases the risk of the most vulnerable families. Habitat Guatemala is responding with hygiene kits, reconstruction kits, and home reparation and reconstruction.
The emergency in the face of the tropical storms and the global context of the Covid-19 pandemic increases the risk of the most vulnerable families. Many families have been forced to evacuate their homes, due to their uninhabitable state, and therefore they face the challenge of having no other place to live.
Habitat for Humanity Guatemala will create short-term and long-term shelter solutions to ensure that families are able to adequately shelter in place during the global pandemic. Furthermore, Habitat is providing food and hygiene kits to ensure that families have access to products for their basic needs.
The project will provide families in affected regions with an adequate home which will provide all members of the families with overall health and well-being.
