In the early days of November, Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) swept across the Philippines with unrelenting force, leaving behind a trail of devastation in Southern Leyte, Cebu, Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Samar and Palawan. For millions, the storm was not just a weather event-it was a life-altering catastrophe. This is just weeks after the 6.9 Cebu earthquake. While we struggle with the impacts of these two emergencies, we have been hit again by another Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung Wong.)
Thousands of families are in crisis: Access to food, clean water, shelter, and essential services have been disrupted. Water systems are compromised, raising health risks in overcrowded evacuation centers. Thousands of homes are damaged, and many families lack basic items like blankets and cooking sets. Schools used as evacuation sites are delaying classes, with damaged facilities further affecting children's learning.
To help children and their families recover quickly, Save the Children Philippines has deployed our teams to assess needs in hard-to-reach areas and deliver urgent aid. This includes rapid food distribution for families who've lost income, clean water and hygiene kits to prevent disease, and shelter materials for damaged homes; and providing multi-purpose cash assistance to help families rebuild their lives and communities restart local economies.
This assistance can help them rebuild their lives and hope to overcome the tragedy and loss they experienced.
