Challenge

80% of Mongolians live in ger. In order to withstand the intense cold of -40 degrees Celsius every winter, Nomadic families light a stove in the middle of the ger. Fire accidents have occurred in 31,122 cases in the past 5 years and Nearly 80% of burn victims are children. In 2021, the number of Mongolian burned children admitted to the National Center for Severe Trauma exceed approximately 2,500. U9change donates moisturizers to 1,000 children at the National Severe Trauma Center every year

Solution

Burn scars harden over time and cause itching in a dry environment. In winter, it is most important to constantly apply moisturizer to manage it, but in the case of nomadic families, there is no money to buy an expensive moisturizer, so there are many cases where oil is applied instead of moisturizer. Therefore U9CHANGE delivers moisturizer and burn ointment for children to treat well and manage their burn scars. In addition, We also provide fireproof mats and throwable fire extinguishers.

Long-Term Impact

Parents of nomadic children are more likely to earn lower wages than city workers' wages. In order to make a living, they cannot afford the high cost of moisturizers, so they apply oil to the burn scars of their children. Therefore, when children with burns are supported by moisturizers and ointments, they work great effects such as relieving itching in burn scars. In addition, Flame retardant mats and throwing fire extinguishers increase the rate of fire suppression in the Village.
