Trauma Relief and Education for Ukraine's Children

The good news are: Our Children’s Centre successfully completed its autumn cycle. Throughout the autumn months, children and teenagers attended in-person classes, took part in creative activities, and received trauma-sensitive psychosocial support. The Centre became what it was meant to be: a safe, welcoming space to learn, play, express emotions, and feel less alone.

At the same time, winter brought new challenges. As a result of Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, it became increasingly difficult to heat the rooms at the Children’s Centre. Keeping children warm and safe is essential, and without a reliable power supply, we had to adapt quickly.

While we are currently raising funds for a generator that will provide stable warmth and light for the Centre, our team has not stopped supporting children. Our teachers and therapist have temporarily moved their work to a local shelter for internally displaced people. There, they continue to provide educational activities and psychosocial support to children who are in especially urgent need of care and stability.

A generator will allow us to fully reopen and operate the Children’s Centre throughout the winter, regardless of power outages. It is not just about electricity—it is about safety, continuity, and giving children a sense of normality in extremely uncertain times.

For many children, September marks the start of a new school year — a time for curiosity, learning, and new friendships. But for millions of children in Ukraine, this moment is overshadowed by war, displacement, and insecurity. Over 3.6 million Ukrainian children now depend on humanitarian aid, many struggling with psychological distress, learning gaps, and the loss of a stable daily life.

At our Children’s Centre in Dnipro, we are working to change this reality. As the new school year began in September, we launched Phase II of our support project. Over the next four months, 720 children and young people will receive psychosocial support and targeted learning assistance. The centre provides them not only with educational help but also with a safe space for emotional healing, community, and creative development.
