Summary

White Hearts Center supports children with Down syndrome in Syria by providing essential education, early intervention, therapy, and inclusion support. The project aims to improve communication, learning, and social skills through individualized care and promote social integration. We seek support to sustain and expand services for up to 100 children, ensuring continuous access to critical developmental support in a context where such services are extremely limited.

Challenge

Children with Down syndrome in northern Syria face severe marginalization and lack access to specialized education, therapy, and early intervention services. A study identified about 807 children in need. Families struggle to find support, leaving many excluded from learning and social inclusion. White Hearts Center has served nearly 100 children but currently operates at reduced capacity due to funding shortages, threatening continuity of essential services.

Solution

The project is a safe space for children with Down syndrome providing integrated services including education, early intervention, speech therapy, physiotherapy, and psychosocial support. It ensures individualized care to improve learning, communication, and social skills. By restoring full service capacity and qualified staff, the center will expand access and promote inclusion and social integration into family and community life.

Long-Term Impact

Currently, despite limited funding, the project ensures continuity of essential services, reflecting the Center's commitment to its mission and sustainability. It will enable at least 100 children with Down syndrome to continue receiving structured support that enhances their development, independence, and social inclusion. Over time, this will strengthen their integration into education, family life, and the wider community.
