This project will enable 240 underprivileged children to receive quality, low-cost English lessons and become proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking. ODC employs and trains local teachers and also provides teacher-training scholarships and academic scholarships to students from low-income families. We believe that a good English education will offer greater opportunities for higher education and employment, empower individuals and help combat inequality.
Access to quality English education for poor children in Cambodia is difficult. Few government schools have suitably qualified teachers to teach English and private schools are very expensive. In the past 8 years, ODC has established a great reputation for high standards and excellent student achievements and as a result, our enrolment has grown. The need is greater than what we are able to financially support and we are reaching out to local and international donors.
With this funding project, we will have the capacity to educate 240 students for 2024, but there are many more children on our waiting list. Our dedicated team of 6 local teachers, 3 trainee teacher scholars and Headmaster work hard to inspire and teach our students. By training young locals to become great teachers, we can offer hope and a better future for all. With more funds, we could educate more children. By supporting this project, together we can create sustainable change in Cambodia.
Our ethos is based on values, ethics and culture, and we recognise the need for holistic enrichment to help youth shape their lives. This project will empower many children from poor families with the ability to speak, write, listen and read in English and equip them with critical life skills to access better job opportunities.
