Expanding Learning Beyond the School Day
Students spend just 20% of their waking hours in school, making afterschool programs essential for continued learning and exploration. Camp Fire First Texas fills this gap by embedding STEAM learning into every day of our afterschool and summer day camp programs—turning curiosity into confidence through hands-on discovery.
STEAM in Afterschool Programs
Daily Hands-On Experiences:
Students engage in Tinker Spaces, Maker Spaces, and project-based activities that reinforce science, technology, engineering, art, and math concepts in fun, accessible ways.
Real-World Application:
Activities encourage problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration while helping students see how STEAM connects to their everyday lives.
Family Engagement:
Camp Fire hosts 22 Family Engagement STEAM Nights each year across 10 program sites, inviting families to participate in experiments, creative challenges, and interactive learning alongside their children.
Impact That Lasts
Research shows that out-of-school STEAM experiences can nearly double the time young people spend exploring and experimenting with STEAM concepts. These opportunities help:
Prevent learning loss during afterschool and summer hours
Increase student confidence and readiness for STEAM subjects
Strengthen family connections to learning
Made Possible by Donor Support
