Dear Friends,
Thank you for supporting our project to provide university education for 21 students at NPH Nicaragua! To date, we have raised over $8200 toward our goal of $20,000.
With your support the young adults at NPH Nicaragua have been able to begin and continue their university careers. I would like to share the story of one of these young people, Yader Sotelo.
As a child, Yader lived with his parents, a brother and two sisters. He went to school and was surrounded by friends and family in his community of Boaco, Nicaragua. While the family struggled economically Yader remembers this as a happy time. Tragically, everything changed for Yader when he was seven years old and his mother died. Yader’s father dealt with his grief by turning to alcohol and began to neglect his children. Without parental role models, the children stopped attending school and the family began to fall apart. After a few years, the children’s situation came to the attention of a local nun who spoke with Yader and his younger sister about NPH. Yader and his younger sister came to NPH in 2007. Eventually, Yader’s other siblings also joined him at NPH and the family
was reunited.
Yader remembers his first year as difficult, with many changes, as he had left behind the only home he had ever known. When Yader came to NPH, he had finished his first year of secondary school. During his fourth year of secondary school, NPH supported Yader in studying a technical career as an auto mechanic. Now Yader is happy and thankful for the opportunity that NPH gave his family. Yader says "NPH Nicaragua gave me the security that I needed to guide me on the correct channels of life, to move forward to reach my dreams and goals. NPH offered me a home and over time became my family."
Although Yader is thankful for his technical career, he has bigger dreams. He dreams of becoming an English teacher. Thanks to NPH, Yader began studying English at the University of Jinotepe close to the NPH home in Nicaragua. He expects that the opportunities that NPH has provided to him will help him ensure a good job and a promising future. Most importantly to Yader is his hope that he will be able to live in peace and give back to those that have given him so much.
Thank you for the part that you have played in helping Yader achieve his dreams. Our work is not done and you can continue to help us provide these opportunities to young people at NPH Nicaragua by continuing to support our project and by sharing our work with others.
