Today we would like you to meet Carol. Carol is 20 years old and a member of the Pitaguary tribe. She has been a member of the Indigenous Youth Achieving Their Dreams project for 12 years. Her current dream is a professional one: becoming a health care/nursing assistant. In addition to the modeling and support MSMC provides, Carol looks up to her mother, who is a health care worker in the indigenous community (Santo Antônio) where they live. Carol is now in the first semester of her health care degree at the Technical School of Maracanaú, on the outskirts of the city of Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará, in Brazil. Carol has always dreamed of helping her community so when she finishes her schooling, her goal is to work in her community’s public health clinic.
This is one of MSMC’s greatest strengths: fostering leaders from within impoverished communities. These leaders know their communities best and by reinvesting in their own communities, strengthen them in untold ways. Carol is one such leader.
Carol shares:
MSMC has changed my life. MSMC has allowed me to see that there are always new opportunities out there and MSMC is always encouraging me to pursue my dreams. I’ve been involved with the Indigenous Youth Achieving Their Dreams project for 12 years now, and I continue to grow through it and because of it. The project never gives up on me and is always encouraging me to do my best; I just need to put in the effort and to really want it. My goal is to continue growing and to continue having the support the project has offered me. Thank you!
