In Brazil, school is only half-day, leaving several hours everyday where children are on their own. For kids living in vulnerable situations, this increases the risk of their exposure and involvement with negative influences, including drug use. Sim a Vida (Yes to Life) is a program that addresses this gap, filling in kids' days with activities, nutrition, emotional support, and most importantly, fun! Every day, Sim a Vida serves around 120 kids - with your help, we can reach 200+!
Elementary school in Brazil is only half-day, leaving many hours every day where youth are on their own. In under-resourced neighborhoods such as Pe no Chao and Marrocos in the city of Fortaleza, the capital city of the Northeastern Brazilian state of Ceara, these free hours can expose youth to drug use, neighborhood gangs, and other negative influences.
The Yes to Life project fills in those hours for vulnerable youth by providing them with a healthy and fun environment of activities, nutrition, and mental health services. The Yes to Life project supports kids' self-esteem and development of multiple forms of intelligence (emotional, intellectual, etc.). On a daily basis, the Yes to Life project serves approximately 120 youth at 2 different locations.
With your help, we can expand Yes to Life's services for the existing locations and expand to 2 more locations to serve a total of 240 youth every day. By keeping kids in a safe, active, and kid-centered environment, Yes to Life improves mental health and self-esteem, and thereby reduces the risk that kids will use drugs, get involved in gang life, engage in self harm, and other negative behaviors.
